I keep checking, there hasn’t been a fixed ThinOS or AVD released since my prior post. I can’t believe we have to keep AVD v1.8 still on hundreds of thin clients just because it has had so many major bugs in the past year!!

Company name had spaces as it’s multiple words, but did not leave blank. They hopefully have resolved the validation issue by now.

This issue appears resolved in the latest update combo of:

    Optiplex 3000

    BIOS v1.13.2

    ThinOS 2311 (v9.4.4123)

    AVD v2.3.2266

I’m no longer having issues controlling RDP sessions on the lab thin client via PiKVM.

I had tried all sorts of RDP session redirection blocking setting for the various detected USB devices of the PiKVM, none worked. Happy that Dell fixed the issue!

Yes, further testing revealed it is USB Redirection. The newest AVD seems to redirect more devices and doesn’t realize the PiKVM’s emulated keyboard and mouse are the local input, and redirects them.

Additional testing, this issue is not present on Microsoft AVD v1.8.1819 or v2.0.2102 but IS present on AVD v2.2.2196.

    Optiplex 3000

    ThinOS v9.4.3087

    BIOS v1.11.0

Seems to be a bug (or new USB redirection “feature”?) in the latest Microsoft AVD package. Guess someone needs to report the issue to Dell engineering. Sigh.

Thanks. Guess we’ll be stuck on v8.x for a few more years until hundreds of thin client PCs get replaced.

@tdimitrov are you using WMS/WDM or ini? If ini any chance you can share it?

No. I’m not familiar with what settings are required to make the webcam’s work in RDP sessions? Long ago it used to be TCX Suite, I assume that is not the case any longer?

We also have this issue with 3030LT and some other thinOS clients. The graphics settings have no effect in resolving the issue, some actually made performance much worse! Disabling Bitmap Caching on the RDP clients from Windows clients resolves the issue, but it seems there is no way to disable bitmap cache on the thinOS, just adjust size. Need a resolution to this issue, its very disruptive to users when they cannot see portions of their screen. For now the only work around we’ve found is having the users log out and back in, sometimes multiple times daily. The issue seems to be most noticeable when using Windows applications that are IE based internally (they use IE com object for displaying graphics, etc). Is there anyone here with contacts at Dell that could resolve this?

Here’s a good example of the issue and workaround for mstsc.exe based clients:

Where are you finding 8.5_020? I checked my Dell Digital Locker, which still has current contracts, and it’s not showing newer than 8.5_017.

Is the DHCP/DNS thing a bug in the firmware, like sometimes the thin client boots and won’t recognize the setup in DHCP?

I also don’t see an option in WMS to add a secondary RDP connection to older firmware (below 8.5), and testing it with 8.5+ it does not load them on a thin client running 8.5_012. Very strange behavior.

It seems I don’t have a way to PM you on this forum, but I was finally able to get a hold of higher up support personnel at Dell who could provide the older firmware. I even made the recommendation to them that this belongs on the Digital Locker, since it is required for upgrades.
