The S90 firmware installed fine on my 9150 & gave me Media Player 11 & IE7 once I got a Sandisk Cruzer USB stick. Other sticks just refused to boot even with BIOS updated to 1.15.
Finally got it to work. Sandisk Cruzer USB stick did the job. The S90 firmware is nice as its got SP2 mit IE7 & Media Player 11
Only other ‘gotcha’ I discovered is the two different versions of the non-Wyse USB imaging tool. Earlier 2006 one isn’t friendly (locked me out of BIOS completely) but the 2009 one works fine.
OK will do
Thanks. I read somewhere that the Lexar USB stick was OK which is why I purchased it. Such is life, I’ll go get one of the ‘officially approved’ ones.
I went out and purchased the Lexar Jumpdrive after I read that someone had used them successfully, however it appears that my 9150 never read that post. Might be interesting to try one of yours & see if they get on together.
A very explicit ‘step by step’ explanation of what you did would be very helpful. In particular, what version USB tool you used. There are two non-Wyse ones and one genuine Wyse one. As far as i can figure out, only the later non-Wyse USB tool is usable because it has the necessaries to update the 9150 BIOS so that it supposedly boots from USB sticks. Mine doesn’t & I can only presume because it doesn’t like the USB sticks (generic one plus a Lexar jumpdrive. It would be helpful to know exactly what one you used as these things are apparently extremely fussy about what USB sticks they are prepared to communicate with.
I think it would update Media Player if you turned off write filter, otherwise updating the operating system to WPe SP2 should give you Media Player 11. I’ve just rried that but it seems the O/S is a bit corrupted on this particular unit because write filter is broken. Had a play with the USB update tools but none of the USB sticks I’ve tried will boot so I guess its back to Wyse Simple Imager.
Seems there is some witchcraft involved. I’ve tried two different sticks so far without success, a generic one with no label & a Lexar that I acquired because I read somewhere that they work fine. Onething I did discover is that there are actually two different non-Wyse BIOS update tools on this site and one managed to lock me out of BIOS completely (no response whatever to holding down the DELETE key) Other one appears to do the job it was intended to do.
OK so I eventually found what i think is the ‘tutorial’ referred to elsewhere in the non-Wyse USB imaging tool. Installed that as per instructions & when I updated BIOS I found I was locked out completely. Then found a different non-Wyse BIOS update that let me back into BIOS & revealed I do now have 1.15. Still won;t boot from a Lexar USB stick though, goes to a flashing cursor and sits there indefinitely.

Hi everybody,
Does anyone knows a good pdf reader I can install on XPe boxes ?
I’ve installed a Foxit version wich often crashes when printing. Some tips ??
Thanks.
From a thin client novice … I’ve used Foxit on heaps of desktop & server systems and found it vastly superior to Adobe in every respect. Have Adobe on my Vista laptop mit wireless internet and it locks up about one time in ten so I’m not exactly the greatest fan of the product. I installed Foxit on a Win2K Advanced Server after Adobe decided it wouldn’t recognise any printer and has impressed me to the extent that I’ll use & recommend Foxit instead of Abobe anytime. I should add that I’ve never installed Foxit on XPe but definitely interested in giving it a try in the near future. Any feedback re this would be much appreciated.
Thanks for the prompt response maestro. Will do as you suggest. Only silly newbie question for now … what if anything is the significance of regional firmware ?? I know from long experience with desktop & server unix / gatesware systems that computers aren’t the smartest devices on the planet & its highly unlikely they would know a city from a planet, so is there any reason why thin clients are any different ??
Thanks …. looks a lot more straightforward than WDM
