XPe (I didnt even think you could run full XP on a terminal anyway??)

This was the response from Wyse support

    Good Afternoon Paul,

It looks like the 9150 units were EOL before SP2 was in Wyse XPe builds. The latest image for the 9150 unit is available from the website under the retired section. It is V2.2 Build 339.

But on looking at various places on the Wyse site (see below for example) it looks like it must be possible – But I dont know where you would get an image from (or how I would upgrade/create image myself)

    Thanks

    Hi imstarunit,

I have only attempted about 7 or 8 (Model 9150se) at once so far.

Although there are a total of 60 Terms in place at my clients site I left the rest of the imaging to the onsite IT guy. I’ll email him to find out if he’s done the rest of the terminals and how many he successfully did in one go.

The hardware in use at the moment is a fast HP Desktop (new but not 100% on the CPU) – its got 2gb RAM and is connected to a Gbit Cisco 3560 switch which is then uplinked via 2xgbit SFP etherchannel to a 100mbit 3560.

All of the terms and client switchports are all set to Auto/Auto – so they should be negotiating at 100/Full.

I would say it still took about 10/15 mins to run through a full reimage of the 7 or 8 terms I did at once – But in saying that, one terminal took that long as well.

I guess the first bottleneck Im going to hit will be disk IO – as Ive just got a single disk with the OS, SQL, WDM and its Repository…..

But I’ll still find out what has been done since I left site and will keep you posted – likewise, if you get any performance stats to post that would be good to.

    Cheers

Hi Guys – just to confirm – I was using a fully licensed WDM installation (451 and 452) – and it would only allow me to image 2 terms also.

If I had the time I would have used netmon to see the inbound connections and try and work out if anything was going wrong.

Im guessing that maybe there is something else using up additional connections to the XP box – In saying that, I was RDP’d into the XP box running WDM at the time – I suppose that would have been one connection gone right there.

But I would have expected to see the usual TCPIP event log message telling me that I have exceeded the connection limit.

    So…I am somewhat perplexed too

Like I said – not an issue for me now as Im running WDM on a 2k3 server now.

    Cheers

    Hi imstarunit,

I would certainly agree that there is no indication of XP’s connection limit being reached.

Ive a couple of suggestions though – do you have a server that you can run FTP on (Win 2k, Win 2k3) – you could host your repository on there and configure WDM to use this remote repository….might be a way of getting round the connection limit.

    or…

Completely unsupported of course and with the usual caveats of “if it breaks it then its not my fault!” – Have a look here
    http://blog.davidkaspar.com/archives/2005/04/windows-xp-sp2-and-event-id-4226.php

Looks like they are mentioning a patch that can increase XP’s connection limit?!?!?

Hpe that helps – but….like I say – never tried it and no warranties!

    Cheers

    Hi Confgen,

    Thanks for you help

I gave up on the XP WDM box and have rebuilt onto a w2k3 box – I hadnt many packages in the repository of the old XP machine so I just started from scratch with 4.5.2

Hopefully things will go a little better now!

    Thanks again

    So….things got much worse then….

I decided I had better get on and install the hotfixes onto WDM.

After doing so I can now no longer access my device list and receive an error along the lines of

    GetClients Failed – Not Found
    DevMgrColumnListings
    SQL OLEDB Provider

I have no idea whats happened – But Im now royally screwed – as I am only 6 devices into a 55 device redeployment.

Looks like I may need to reinstall WDM onto a new Server (a W2k3 OS for that matter as well).

Any thoughts on what the error is and how to fix it would be most appreciated – (although I realise that not too many people will be looking at this forum on a sunday!)

    Cheers

    Paul

I should also mention that the TFTP log says- “READ ERROR From 192.168.20.34 2700 – Closed Session”
