I am no expert on these, as you can see from a previouse thread!
But
The 9450xe’s are basicaly just very simple PC’s, with a WYSE bios, and Wyse software.
So if you cant get to the bios screen you need to diagnose them as you would a normal PC.
Remove everything from the main board except 1 stick of RAM, the PSU a keyboard, a mouse and a monitor. you dont need the flash drive or the HDD installed.
Now try booting, and press delete after the Wyse logo.
If you dont see the Wyse logo, or if you cant get into the bios one of the above items is faulty, or you have a bad bios or the main motherboard is faulty.
You can reset the bios to default by clearing the CMOS:-
Power off, remove onboard battery, remove the link from pins 1 and 2 on the jumper near the battery and replace on pins 2 and 3 for about 5 seconds, then put back onto pins 1 and 2.
Refit battery and power up and try and boot back into the bios.If this doesnt work then you need to substitute each component (mouse, keyboard, PSU, RAM, motherboard) with a known good one untill you find the fault.
Hope this helps
Peter
Finally done it!!!
Thanks for all the help and advice.
a very frustrating episode, but now hopefully worth it.
The turning point was examining the disk drives.
The Boot sector had been modified when they were wiped, so re-partitioned and formatted using the standard Windows XP install disk (put the HDD in an old laptop and went through the process of installing XP, but stopped after re-formatting disk) restored the disks to a point where the WSI could see them and install the image.
Now I have a pair of 9450XE’s with windows XPe installed. 😀
thanks

Many thanks
Looks like the flash should go in OK.
I will turn my attention to the HDD, and re-format this and keep trying.
I have some simple applications that need a PC running permantly in a logging capacity, and these units seem ideal.

Is there any way to try and identify what the problem is that is causing this issue?
I have checked the specifications of the 9450’s as best as i can, and apart from having a 20Gb HDD instead of 156Mb flash they are as per specifications.
I understand that there was a HDD upgrade kit available for the 9450, would this have been to replace the flash, or in addition to the flash? Did these need special firmware?
Many thanks for your valued assistance.

Thanks for your response.I tried to re-image the 9450 and finally got communications using WSI, and all looked good.
However in the middle of the process WSI reported
Firmware not Compatible”
.
Looking at the logs I see
Searching for: ()->(30651106)TARGET COMPARISON FAILED ************************************* failed.
I get this even when no HDD is installed.
I note also that the image I am using from WYSE has the flash size included in the download description.
9450XE (English Builds, 256MB) V3.01 SP2 B425 English Builds
21-Nov-2005Is it likely that the firmware is looking for the same size flash drive in the 9450?
If not any ideas how to get this firmware installed?
Thanks
Peter
