    Hi

I have got two Wyse 9450XE units that I want to add to my home network to run some low level applications relating to amateur radio and electronics.

Unfortunatly both have been completely wiped by a professional company, and just boot to the HDD with some basic system specifications.

The 9450’s both have their COA for windows XPe, so I should be able to re-install XPe from the Wyse site

However these 9450’s do not have any Flash memory fitted (no onboard, and non in the IDE channels), and appear never to have had any!

IDE channel 1 is connected to the 20Gb HDD, and IDE channel 2 is connected to a ribbon cable which connects to an IDE connecter hidden in the base!

These 9450’s do have a PCI SCSI interface card installed.

I presume the XPe operating system would have been installed to the HDD.

How can I “flash” these units to install XPe from the Wyse site?

I have tried WSI and had no luck (I need to enter the flash memory size, and am unsure what to enter in the image version field)

Is it possible to flash these to the HDD using WSI. If not what other options do I have?

Maybe if I use a CF to IDE adaptor I can flash to a CF card, would this likely work?

    Thanks

    Peter

Yes, WSI should work fine here. Doesn’t matter what you enter in the flash size part. It is just a comment for referencing the images.

    Thanks for your response.

I tried to re-image the 9450 and finally got communications using WSI, and all looked good.

However in the middle of the process WSI reported

    Firmware not Compatible”

    .

Looking at the logs I see

Searching for: ()->(30651106)TARGET COMPARISON FAILED ************************************* failed.

I get this even when no HDD is installed.

I note also that the image I am using from WYSE has the flash size included in the download description.

    9450XE (English Builds, 256MB) V3.01 SP2 B425 English Builds
    21-Nov-2005

Is it likely that the firmware is looking for the same size flash drive in the 9450?

If not any ideas how to get this firmware installed?

    Thanks

No, the size does not matter. The issue could be that WSI is checking whether it is a valid plattform for that image or not. This prevents accidentially killing a unit by imaging it with a wrong image.

    Many thanks

Is there any way to try and identify what the problem is that is causing this issue?

I have checked the specifications of the 9450’s as best as i can, and apart from having a 20Gb HDD instead of 156Mb flash they are as per specifications.

I understand that there was a HDD upgrade kit available for the 9450, would this have been to replace the flash, or in addition to the flash? Did these need special firmware?

Many thanks for your valued assistance.

The upgrade kit replaced the flash. There wasn’t any config avaible with both installed.
    Firmware file is the same.

    Many thanks

Looks like the flash should go in OK.

I will turn my attention to the HDD, and re-format this and keep trying.

I have some simple applications that need a PC running permantly in a logging capacity, and these units seem ideal.

    Finally done it!!!

Thanks for all the help and advice.

a very frustrating episode, but now hopefully worth it.

The turning point was examining the disk drives.

The Boot sector had been modified when they were wiped, so re-partitioned and formatted using the standard Windows XP install disk (put the HDD in an old laptop and went through the process of installing XP, but stopped after re-formatting disk) restored the disks to a point where the WSI could see them and install the image.

Now I have a pair of 9450XE’s with windows XPe installed. 😀

    thanks

    Peter
