After having solved the problem I tried to investigate what service caused the problem.

First I had a look at Java and made both versions equal. No luck.
Then I compared both machines (slightly different types) for the services and applications used. I shut down all services and apps on the problematic PC that were not available or operating on the working PC. Again no difference.
The eventlog didn’t contain any clues either.

So alas, I’m at a loss for now as to what caused the problems with netxfer18.
If anyone would have a suggestion as to what might interfere with netxfer18 I am most willing to try it out.

I succeeded in solving the problem.
After having tried all kinds of things both on TC and PC (including disabling services etc) I installed the netxfer software on another and totally clean PC.
    It worked at once.

I haven’t been able yet to figure out the difference between the two PC’s. Maybe it has something to do with different Java versions (updates). But now the process of reimaging is working.

I was under the impression that the the TFTP process had completed because it was talking about the NAND flash stuff. But this is misleading. The netxfer program is quite involved.

Thanks for braining along with me.

Yes it always stops here no matter what bin file I use (506.4, 529.1).
However, I tried using mkutc.bat (though the manual says I don’t need to) and then the TC reboots immediately after downloading the bootp.bin file (which not really surprises me).

Other TC’s I tried act the very same way.

On the PC I have disabled all services that might interfere.

I did notice an oddity in the TC behaviour though: the procedure to make the 3125SE start the image download doesn’t exactly work the way it is stated in the manual. According to the manual one would have to press the power-button and keep it depressed while tapping the ‘P’ button until the Netxfer messages starts appearing.
It didn’t actually work exactly like that. It may seem irrelevant but I mention it anyway just to avoid any possible mistakes on my side. As it does start a netxfer transfer I think it is not important but here is how it works for me:
    1) I unplug the TC and let it rest for a moment before reconnecting the power again. I wait until the yellow power-indicator turns off.
    2) I press the power button and hold it for (at least) 5 seconds while I tap the ‘P’ button. During this period the power-led lights green, briefly displays the Wyse logo screen then turns blank again.
    3) I release the power-button but keep on tapping the ‘P’ button. The power-led turns to a mixture of green and yellow. No other response follows. The manual suggests that now the netxfer process should start. It doesn’t.
    4) I stop pressing the ‘P’button. I then have to hold the power-button again for a few seconds. It turns green during the pressing, then after releasing it turns yellow and the netxfer process starts.
    5) Again pressing the power button for a few seconds restarts the netxfer part of the sequence.
