I just wanted to follow up on this for the sake of information.

We are still having the random disconnect issue. We upgraded our Citrix servers to the newest rollup pack and things seemed fine for a while.

The random disconnects became far less frequent until all of a sudden on Monday we had a user get disconnected three times in a matter of a couple of hours.

I’m starting to think it has something to do with the physical network. It’s weird though because we have a bunch of 3150s that work just fine. Only with the V30L do we see these disconnects. The v90L doesn’t do it and we’ve been testing a couple of those too.

I’m gonna keep on keeping on until this is fixed or I’ve tried everything. If I ever find a fix I’ll post it here in case anyone else ever encounters this problem.

    Success at last!

Instead of using WDM, I set up an FTP on the server with WDM and did a manual upgrade. All I had to do was put the files in the root directory of the ftp and away it went.

Now the firmware is upgraded…the next step is the ICA client. Here’s to hoping that goes a little more smoothly.

Well after I got fed up yesterday I decided to take a different approach.

I’m going to use Wyse Device Manager to attempt this. I was able to get a response out of the terminal when I did a manual upgrade with WDM. It couldn’t find params.ini but at least it was looking.

Could someone point me in the direction of a WDM guide?

    Again…thanks for all the help.

but if you change the path as recommended and then copy the firmware.bin and params.ini file in the upgrade folder, you can use the upgrade folder in the Update dialog on the CE system.
This has to work for sure. I did it a hundred times at least.

Try this and do 2 things during the test
    – take a network trace using MS netmon
    – check the FTP logs afterwards

Tried it and it still doesn’t work…I’m using a cross over cable so there is no trace required. The connection exists it just doesn’t do anything.

There is nothing in the FTP log. I have no problem accessing my FTP through the network with PCs.

Is it really so hard to allow USB imaging on CE devices? The only reason I’m trying to upgrade the firmware is because all the v30Ls we have are performing like total crap compared to the 3150s. I can’t even troubleshoot the problem (crappy performance) because another problem came up that can’t be solved (won’t image).

Screw the V30L…I’d rather stick with the 3150.

I tried that and still no luck. I’ve spent four work days on this trying everything I can think of for nine hours straight every day.

I’m just about to tell my company to scrap the V30L. It’s been nothing but crap for us.

what FTP server are you using? Can you connect to your FTP server using anonymous from a different machine?

I’m using the default FTP server. Here are the current settings…they’ve been changed a ton over the past couple of days. I’ve tried many different configurations but this is the one I’m using now…

    Hi,

no clue why WSI is not working for you, but if you wnat to use FTP upgrade just type the folder beneath ftproot as a target folder.
eg c:inetpubftprootUpgrade is where the params.ini and xxxx.bin file are stored. In the Update dialog on the CE system just enter the IP of your FTP server and upgrade as a folder.

    Regards
    Mr. ConfGen

Thanks for trying but it still won’t work. It says “waiting for connection” and the bar goes all the way to the end and asks if I want to retry the connection or cancel.

I think the problem is with my FTP. I don’t have a firewall on or anything like that. I’ll take some screenshots of my FTP settings.

Ok…yesterday I did a clean install of IIS and reset the terminal to factory defaults.

After that I had a little more luck. At least SOMETHING was happening. However it still didn’t work using WSI. I typed down everything popping up on the screen and here is what it said.

    Auto-select:
    Rapport pxe

    Boot server ip: 10.1.1.12

WISard 4.4.042 Wyse PXE Agent [796] © 2004-2005 Wyse Technology (atf)
    Contacting Server [4001](02)
    StandAlone Mode (TFTP)
My IP 10.1.1.14, Server IP 10.1.1.12, GW IP 192.168.1.1
    Server Found [4001](01)
    Uploading root.i2u [4002](02)
    Upload Successful [4002](01)
    Searching for: ((Directive)
    Searching for: (~if)
    Searching for: (stream/rep/xl.msg)
    Searching for: (~.i2c)->(~RTIbase>Tools/sa/alone/64604997.i)->(~ftp//anonymous:[email protected]/Rapport/Tools/sa/alone/64604998.i2c)
    Evaluating:
    ‘ftp//anonymous:[email protected]/Rapport/Tools/sa/alone/64604998.i2c’ to ‘stam/rep/xl.msg

When it would get to that point it would freeze for about 10 minutes and then display a lot of messages really quickly and then reboot.

So then I tried the manual FTP upgrade and that doesn’t work. I don’t know the syntax for listing the directory but the location on my hard drive is c:inetpubftprootUpgrade. I put in /inetpub/ftproot/Upgrade for the directory part.

The only way I could get the bar to move was to keep the DHCP server running (btw, I still can’t get DHCP turbo to work). It gets to the end and then it just says that it can’t connect and asks me to retry or cancel.

Need any more info? I’ve been working on this all week…I’m pretty sure I’ve tried everything logically possible. There is probably just one setting that I need to change to get it to work…but I have no idea what that setting is.

Thanks for any and all of your help!

We are indeed using PS4 and that link that you gave me provided me with a lot of helpful information. Thanks a lot for posting that.

I disabled session reliability on one of the terminals and had the user stay logged in over the weekend in order to test the stability. The terminal has now been logged in since May 18th, 9:45am. I’m hoping that the problem was fixed just that easily, but easy is rarely the case when working with something so complex.

At this point, we’re hesitant to install a hotfix rollup because we just installed two brand new servers and are in the process of getting those up to snuff. Once those are up and going, we’ll probably install the rollup if the problem persists.

Again, thanks a lot for the helpful link. 😉
