The current Wyse image (B855) for this line is too big for the stock 4GB flash on my particular Z90D7 unit.

This unit is currently on B830 and there are newer archived images that should fit (up to B855), but there’s a warning not to use them for 2nd gen devices, which this is (909686-01L). Paradoxically, B830 is indicated to be the transition point to 2nd gen compatibility, and the release notes for the subsequent, archived, “not-to-be-used” images refer to the need to be at B830 after 2nd gen compatibility conversion, to use them!

This has got me confused. Is it the situation that only 1st Gen-updated-to-2nd-Gen-compatibility units can use those next upgrades, while original 2nd Gen units can not? Did they sell a 2nd Gen unit with 4GB flash w/o providing an update path? Were users intended to upgrade the flash to 8GB as well?

Maybe the warning against deploying to 2nd Gen units is wrong?

The warning about using newer images on the 2nd gen HW looks like a typo to me. It should read

Archived images (listed below) are not to be used for FIRST generation units. See the ‘ReadMe First’ document in the 2nd Gen Compatibility Kit to determine which unit you have.

You only have to make sure that, if you are using a 1st gen HW to apply the compatibilty pack before upgrading to build 830 or higher.
As long as it fits in the flash and you are using a 2nd gen HW, feel free to install whatever image you want.
