    Hi,

I want to clone a WYSE V30LE device using WDM to devices in our international offices.

I have one terminal already set up with all the add-ons and configuration I need. I have been able to clone this with the USB tool, but need to be able to pull the whole image into WDM in order to get it out to our global offices.

Could anyone point me in the right direction with this? I tried to “Register an Image from a Device (Requires PXE), but none of my devices show in the list of terminals I wish to ‘PULL’ my image from.

How do I set up PXE for this functionality? Presumably I need to set a boot file in DHCP Scope Settings? I’m struggling to find documentation on this from WYSE and would appreciate any help.

    Thanks,
    Mike.

    Hi,

Just to note I am using WDM 4.9.1

Also, my USB imaging stick has the following files on it

    [ROOT]
    kernelmsg.txt
    -Folder: “Image”

    [ROOTIMAGE]
    bios.img
    cmos.img
    commandsXml.xml
    Merlin.txt
    par1.img

If I am able to somehow get this into WDM, that could also work for me. Any suggestions welcome…

    Cheers
    Mike.

This is not trivial although it should be.
    Two way to do this.
    1. (and recommended): Go to the Products – CE section on this site and download “Creating a CE image and WDM DDC”. This guide will explain how to create your own CE image including your configuration. You can ignore the part of the document that handles the WDM DDC part.
    2. Download the latest CE image from Wyse.com. Extract it. You will find a 674Wye08_VL46_MER.rsp file and a commandsxml.xml. Comparing these two files will show you that a big part of the rsp script is the same as the xml file.
Now take your commandsxml.xml from your USB stick copy over the part that was matching between the two original files. This will modify the rsp file to match with your commandsxml.xml file.
Register this in WDM and it should work.

Nevertheless I would highly recommend the first option.

    Hi,

Thanks for this – would this also include custom add-ons in the image though?

I have a JPG in a folder on the device for a wallpaper, and was given a few custom add-ons by WYSE. I have also rolled back the Citrix Client to an older version as the latest one does not work at 1440*900 resolution.

I need the image to capture everything on the machine but I’m not convinced the steps in that document will cover everything.

    What do you think?

    Thanks,
    Mike.

Also, do you know if PXE is required to pull any images into WDM?

I’m a little confused with the “Register an Image from a Device (Requires PXE)” option.

    Thanks,

Check the guide and it will be clearing things up on the custom addon question.
For pulling a CE image PXE is required. If you follow option 1 or 2, then you are just registering a package from a script file.

    Thanks, one last question…

PXE – What are the parameters in DHCP? I can’t find any reference in the manuals about the boot file, or where the PXE server resides.

There’s nothing about the configuration of this anywhere.

    Cheers,
    Mike.

    There is nothing to do.
WDM acts as a PXE Proxy and issues the needed information.
