We are using the Wyse s50 clients and are experiencing an annoying possible power problem. When users shutdown for the night, for no explained reason, the terminals won’t power up the next morning. You press the power button, it goes amber, then shuts off. It never turns on. I’ve replaced the power bricks and cords, tried other outlets, even brought them back to my office and plugged them in and still, they don’t power up. Just an amber light, then it shuts off.
It’s becoming an increasingly annoying problem. There seems to be no rhyme or reason, as this can happen overnight, or if the TC was off for a month.
Any ideas? I know Wyse has had issues with power, is this just another annoying problem with no fix?
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
August 25, 2007 at 1:17 am #10045Wow – I have not seen this. When you say Wyse have had power issues what type?
If the units have an issue where the light goes amber and then off this usually means the BIOS is corrupt. Do you mean you can never ever get them turned on without sending them off to the service center?
I would look the see what addons and firmware you have in you wlx folder (if you use this) and remove all of them. Also set the autoload=0
If the problem persists it sounds like there is a hardware issue with the NOR and you should log a call with wyse. Check the serial numbers and build dates of the units, see if the failing ones are all the same?
Cheers,

As for this problem, yes, the light goes amber and then then shuts off. It doesn’t go green and then you hear the beep. Just amber and off.
I’ll check out the wlx folder and the autoload and see what happens.
Thanks again.
August 28, 2007 at 1:01 pm #10071The 3360 were a very old unit with a different power supply, I belive you have an issue with the BIOS getting Nuked.
Post back if you find an addon problem,
Cheers,

With the 3360, we found out if you unplug from the back of the TC, then unplug the power cord to the brick, it took care of the problem for a little while, but it usually came back.
I’m going to get to this problem, but it’s on the backburner for a week or so at work. I work for a school district and we’re opening school next week, so it’s a busy time of year. I’ll be sure to post back any progress, or lack of, I find.
Thanks, again.
