    Hi,

I am new to Wyse devices (WES7 Standard) and in order to get my head around some of the basic stuff can you advise on the following?

Hagent – client on devices, does this run on every start up or does it run continuously whilst powered up?

Does this have to be installed and running in order to communicate with the WDM server or are there alternative methods for this?

Rapport – is this just the DB or is this what is now called WDM? There are multiple names in documentation I have read.

WDM – Do all clients have to have hagent installed to speak to the server? Can they be configured on the device? ie if the device is not showing in the WDM console can it be pushed out to this device manually if we know the IP?
Is there a default remote shadow password or is this set elsewhere?
How can you check if it is the enterprise or free version of WDM? The only access we have is via the snap in.

WCM – Files can be pulled down from WDM server on each start up or stored locally. How can we check this on the device?

WDA – is this only for CCM?

Is there a guide anywhere with the boot process in the order these processes take place, ie dhcp to get ip address, dns, hagent, wdm etc

    Thanks in advance.

All OS’s have the agent to communicate with WDM preinstalled. This agent is either called WDM agent, Hagent or WDA.
WDA is the combined WDM and CCM agent.
The agent has to be installed on the client to be able to communicate to the WDM server. But, as it is part of the OS, there is nothing to do for you here beside updating it from time to time if a newer version gets available.
You will find the config GUI for the agent either in the Control Panel – WDM applet or (on ThinOS) under System Setup-Central Configuration-WDM (WDA).
Enter the name or IP of the WDM server here and reboot.
On the other hand you could also use DNS alias, DNS SRV record or DHCP option tags to automate this process. Check the WDM Install and Admin guide for more details on this.

Rapport is the old name of WDM and therefore still referenced in some documentation and the product itself.

WCM was a stand-alone product to configure WES based devices. It is now part of WDM and can be used to configure WES, Linux and ThinOS devices.
