    Hello.

With the most recent release i have downloaded this BIOS: “BIOS_1.0G_5060_ThinOS”

We are using 5060’s with a BIOS version of 1.0A.  Apart from the included instructions which instructs you to boot from USB stick and apply BIOS, is there another way through WYSE Management Suite.  We have over 900 devices that will require this.

I have struggled to find much documentation on upgrading the BIOS on a wyse device at all much less my specific model.

    Many thanks in advance.

Currently a BIOS upgrade for 5060 is only supported via USB.
All other methods (fileserver or WMS) are planned for the next BIOS version.

I am encountering the same issue, Dell WMS v1.1 says “Invalid BIOS File” attempting to add the ZD10_bios.bin to the repository. I have added it to the legacy FTP server, and the 5040 AIO thin clients pick it up and upgrade just fine. Seems yet another shortcoming in Dell’s newer management suite! Does anyone know if we can add the .bin directly to the localrepo folder and the thin client will pick it up? I have not tested that myself yet.

Just downloaded BIOS 1.0G and the readme says to update through USB..

I boot a Windows 10 PE and run “DFC reboot” as instructed but the result is “not supported on this platform”.

So… what platform is supported ?

(BTW, I just want to get rid of the two annoying startup “bips”… Who, on hell, had the strange idea to throw two bips at startup ????. I was instructed by Dell to update the BIOS… Seems easier to unsolder the beeper)

    >This BIOS is for Wyse 5060 Thin Client with ThinOS 8.5 and above.

    >BIOS Version: 1.0G

    >Update steps for ThinOS:

    >1. Unzip “1.0G.zip” and copy all the files to a bootable USB flash device.
    >2. Insert the USB flash device into any USB port.
    >3. Shut down and power on the unit and press “Delete” to enter BIOS system, >password is “Fireport”.
    >4. Go to “Advanced” tab and set “Boot From USB” to Enable.
    >5. Go to “Exit” tab, select “Exit Saving Changes” and Press “Enter”, unit will restart.
    >6. Press “P” to access the one time boot menu.(If unit boots into ThinOS, shut down >and power on, press “P”)
    >7. Select the USB flash device.
    >8. Go to the folder of BIOS files.
    >9. Execute command “DFC reboot”, BIOS update will be performed.
    >10. The system will restart when the BIOS update is complete.

What happens if you just execute the “ChkPlaf.exe”?
Does it create a Solano.flg file?

Can you try a DOS bootable stick?

    It worked using (free)DOS.

    Thanks.

For the record, since I had thrown away all my DOS tools for ages, I googled and found “Rufus”, an excellent tool to create in a flash a FreeDOS bootable flash. 😉

BTW, I opened a case at Dell and the support directed me to use Dell USB Imaging tool, which was a dead-end to me. What is a “RSP” package in the first place ? No clue in the documentation. I was asked to select 32 or 64 of the OS (what OS ? ThinOS ?…). Ridiculous complex for flashing a BIOS.

Please someone tell  Dell to update the readme.txt of that BIOS package and add “DOS” bootable.

After purchasing WTOS support contract from Dell, you can download it from Dell Digital Locker.

We have not a WTOS support because we are using the Igel UDC (who officially supports the 5060).
Is there another way to access this file ?
