On occasion you will need to edit the hosts file on your machine.
in windows you go to : c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

but does ThinOS have hostfile? and can i edit it like this?

    10.90.91.10 server-HB-01.hb.local

There is no local editing of the Hosts file.
However, you can create a host file, copy it either to WMS or your fileserver and load it via policy or INI parameter.

step1: make an copy of your windows host file (edit it like you whant)
    step2: Open WMS > Apps&Data >File Repostory>Inventory>Add File
Step3: Chooose Hostfile (type?) > Upload
step4: go to Groups and Configs> edit the THINOS pocily group> and then?

Question step3: which filetype should i choose to upload the hostfile?
Question step4: Which configuration must i choose to assign the uploaded host file?

You can find a PDF in the Downloads section under ThinOS called “First steps”.
Use that one to set up a fileserver with the correct folder structure. Then copy the host file to that server and add Hosts=your_hosts_filename to your wnos.ini.

    Hi CG,

    I’ve read the TechGuide PDF.
i’m affraid dat this doesn’t apply to our situation.
We use the Wyse Management Suite to manage all the thinclient.

    you say before:
However, you can create a host file, copy it either to WMS or your fileserver and load it via policy or INI parameter.

How can i copy the hostfile to WMS?

Sure. Go to Apps&Data and upload it to the File-Repository.

Open your Policy and then go to „Advanced Device Configuration – Hosts“

    Hi CG,

I still can’t resolve a host name to ip adress.
If want to edit the hosts file on my windows machine.
    i’ll go to windows c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

there i can put an record like this:

    10.0.0.10 (space) server01

and it wil resolve the ip adress

In WMS i was trying some parameters, but it didn’t work. the name resolution failed.

Any idea how or which parameter i can use ?

    Wrong place, wrong syntax.
Do not use “Advanced”, but “Hosts (8.6+)”. It is one category above.

Go to Apps&Data – File Repository-Inventory and upload your hosts.txt file (same format as the Windows hosts file).
After that, you can use it within the policies.
