I have been looking for solutions that I can understand, but so far have had no luck. Hopefully someone can help.
I have a HP LaserJet 1022n that I have directly connected to a s10 through USB. We only have 2-3 thin clients with local printers, so I was attempting to set it up manually using LPD.
This is my first time messing with thin clients and printers, so I am sure I am doing multiple things wrong.
I have the settings as follows:
-Ports tab-
Port: LPT1
Name: Thin Test
Printer ID: Hp LaserJet 1022n
Printer Class: PCL5
Enable the printer device: checked
Enable LPD service for the printer: checked-LPDs tab-
Select LPD: LPD1
Name: Thin Test
Printer ID: HP LaserJet 1022n
LPD Hosts: 128.101.4.249 (This is my Thin Client static IP.. I wasn’t sure if I needed that or my server.. but when I attempted to use the server location, it asked me for credentials. If I am supposed to be using something with the server here, and elaboration would be greatly appreciated.)
LPD Queue name: Thin Test
Printer Class: PCL5
Enable the printer device: checkedWhen I click test print, the printer does print a test page.
I have tried adding the printer then with the server running windows server 2003. I use the add a local printer -> Create a new LPR port -> put the IP of my thin client and Thin Test for queue name (I have also tried HP LaserJet 1022n as the queue name) -> Chose the driver and kept the existing driver -> then rename it Thin Test -> share it with the same share name, but when I go to print a test page, it just remains at the “Spooling” stage forever.
If anyone knows what all I am doing wrong, or has a simpler explanation/resource as to how to make the printer operate for the network, that would be great! I have read the WTOS – Setting up printers whitepaper, and a few other posts in the these forums about thin client printers, but I am still missing something vital.
Also, I have no clue if it is effecting this, but the printer locally (once you log into windows) says that it is a HP DeskJet500.. and wants to use HP DeskJet500 drivers. I went through and set it up using those drivers and that name, and I got the test page to go past spooling, but it returned “Printer is Busy or has an Error” in the windows queue.

Hi,
Before we even look at sharing this printer you need to get it working locally, that is printing from the actual device it is plugged into. There was an issue with this printer a long time ago that was fixed in 5.0.47 so make sure you do not have old code in the device.
Once you have the printer working you can then go to a different terminal and set up a LPR printer and point it to the IP address of the terminal with the device plugged in. The key is that the PrinterID is the exact name of the Windows print driver.
