We’ve been using SMB printing in WTOS 8.2-8.5.020.
Our configuration line looks like this:
Printer=SMB1 LocalName=”PRINTER01″ Host=\\servername Name=”PRINTER01″ PrinterID=”HP Universal Printing PCL 6″ Enabled=yes
Since updating to 8.6.013(or 8.6.024), the device will not print. Test Print says Printer Open Failed.
If we add:
Domain=ourdomain.com User=Username Password=password
into the line above, the host and domain get mangled in the Printer setup panel, I believe due to length, causing it to fail. However if I go in and manually correct it, printing will work, until it reboots and mangles the line again. For this reason, simply adding the above to the line won’t solve our problem.
Downgrading to WTOS 8.5.020 immediately resolves the problem with no other changes needed.
Has anyone else experienced this?
Our print servers are 2008R2
I haven’t seen or heard about it. Please open a ticket at Dell – Techdirect.

Just to follow up on this.
Something changed in name resolution with 8.6.x but wasn’t documented in the release notes. I’ve confirmed with Dell that this happened. They’re supposed to add info to release notes in next version, but it’s not in them to this point.
Our thin clients seemingly randomly weren’t able to resolve specific print servers when updated to 8.6.x. Rolling back to 8.5.x immediately fixed it. I added a hosts file and 8.6.x now seems to work fine. It’s possible this could affect other client functionality, so I wanted to let people know in case they run into it.
