Hello
I’m experiencing issues with USB printers and passthrough. Environment is WTOS clients (5040 AIO) and Server 2012 R2 running RDS.
Using RDP redirection the printer does show up however wont print. I receivee “The document failed to print”.
With TCX enabled the printer redirects and prints correctly, however is available in all other RDP sessions on the host. Session level restrictions are enabled, I also tested with the Vendor ID and Device ID added manually to the session level restriction list.
I see the same result in Server 2016, however it works perfectly in Server 2008 R2. With 2008 R2, printer installs, SLR works correctly. Though, id prefer not to deploy an old OS.
Any thoughts on how I can make TCX SLR work in 2012 R2? or perhaps another solution?
2012 TCX Monitor
2008 TCX Monitor (note SLR is enabled)
Thanks in advance
August 14, 2017 at 4:55 pm #44989Why do you try to redirect the printer via USB redirection?
Why not use the printer mapping?
– Install the printer driver on your server
– Check the correct name of the installed printer driver
– enter this name on the client in the Printer Identification field of the local printer config
– connect to sessionCG

Thanks for the reply!
I’m slightly confused here. Are we suggesting there are three ways you can pass through a USB printer?
Printing Mapping via RDP
TCX USB Redirection
RDP USB RedirectionIs that correct?

August 16, 2017 at 2:32 pm #45017Thank you ConfGen.
Changing the Printer Identification field to match the driver name fixed the printer passthrough!
It appears i was using RDP USB redirection previously (which worked for other devices ie storage) however didn’t work for this particular printer.
Printing mapping seems to do everything we need.
Thank you for your help, i probably spent 5-6 hours looking for a solution. It was starting to become very frustrating.
June 8, 2018 at 5:33 pm #46871Hi ConfGen,
Just a question, can I choose in real time how to share a USB device in TCX or RDP? I have some devices that works with TCX and other only with RDP, if will be possible to choose in real time will be great!
Regards,
Jav.
