I’ve just set up a new Dell server running 2003 R2 with TS and IIS services installed.
I also picked up 10 Wyse V10Ls for a thin client network.
The first issue I can’t seem to resolve is how to prevent my users from manipulating programs that they shouldn’t have access to. MS Office and education software are ok, but the client user has root level control over Symantec Endpoint Protection and the Wyse terminal manager.
How can I restrict access to just the apps the user needs?
Secondly, the students need to store documents on their personal thumb drives. Plugging them in while RDPing to the server does nothing. How can I get the remote desktop session to detect the drive and allow them to save locally?
Thanks!
Hi,
My suggestion is to create a policy and apply it to the server to ACL files from users. Next make sure the server C: drive is hidden from users (Group Policy again). Finally create a login script and profile that only has shortcuts to the programs users actually need.
For the Wyse S10’s they will need version 5.2xx to support USB drives under RDP. This will need a firmware support contract from Wyse, its not expensive however,
Cheers,
-TT
Thanks for the help.
I’m 90% of the way there 😀
