    Hi rl2000
    I’ve got it now, but seems a little bit strange for me.
    I think I will use 8.3.xxx for updateing BIOS-Password for new thinclients in an
    extra net and then put them in the dedicated place where 8.5.xxx is used:
    Updating standard-BIOS-Password only once when the thinclients are new, hoping that further passwordchanging is not needed.
    Thanks a lot for your support.

    Hi rl200,
    I’m confused now.
    what cmos mismatch ? what to resolve ? Passwort isnt’t changed but rest of BIOS is okay,
    downgrading is possible in easy way.
    I want to update firmware from 8.3.xxx to 8.5.yyy
    in our wnos.ini we set CMOS/BIOS-Password to change the default”Fireport”.
    Up to Version 8.3.xxx this works.
    what’s now the right way step by step to update firmware and what are the correct wnos.ini parameters now ?
    And we don’t can access every thinclient for firemwareupdate manually .
    Please bring some light in the dark.

    hi rl2000,

    my wnos.ini:
    Device=Cmos Autopower=yes
    Decice=Cmos CurrentPassword=oldpw NewPassword=newpw

    BIOS-version 3.0P

    I get error “CMOS: failed to set password” when booting the thinclient. After that I powered on the thinclient 5040 and entered the BIOS with the old password. I didn’t change anything but saved the BIOS, but after booting the error still remained and the password didn’t change. This method doesn’t work for me.
    What exactly does it mean “so it needs the new BIOS for ANY bios password settings to work” “after er BIOS update you must MANUALLY go into the bios and save changes, after that it works” ?
    I have to control about 2000 thinclients and when i need to change the BIOS-Password I am  not able to check any of these manually. And if someone else changed the BIOS-Password I have no chance to enter the BIOS, because i dont’t know the new password.

    my question to ConfGen:
    what’s the reason for changing the old working way for setting the BIOS-Password?
    now there is no way anymore to change BIOS-Password by means of wnos.ini.
    this is a reason for not upgrading to firemware 8.5.xxx

    hi,

    I tried 8.5.020 firmware, but error “CMOS: failed to set password” still exist

    Device 5010 (D10D) and 5212 (AIO 5040).

    I set this parameter in wnos.ini:

    Device=CMOS CurrentPassword=oldpw NewPassword=newpw

    all other BIOS-Parameters can be changed, Passwort  not.

    any new ideas how to get that working ?

    thanks in advance

    thanks for the answer.

    if there is no no need for bios updating, we will still use the actual 3.0P one.

    but the mentioned error with password update isn’t still solved for us in 8.5.017.

    is it solved in new 8.5.020 (haven’t tried it yet)? or what is the correct way to change the bios password.

    the proposed way to use Device=CMOS CurrentPassword=oldpw NewPassword=newpw

    doesn’t succeed. Is there anything else i had to consider?
