Hey Guys, I am having another odd challenge that I need to overcome. From what I understand and what I have experienced, when you take an image of a Z90 and push that down to a new machine, the machine name stays the same. It looks like the hostname.arc file on the WFS partition does not pull with the image or push down. I have an issue with some software that is being monitored where during sysprep, I need the name of the Gold image to carry over to the new machines. There is a known issue with the software breaking sysprep, but the fix is to add some reg keys with the computer name for the Gold image, but in the Z90’s case, that is not static.

Basically, when the name doesn’t get written to the hostname.arc on the target machine, Sysprep runs its next pass on startup and breaks, giving hardware errors, etc. Can we somehow write the hostname.arc file from the Gold image down to the target WFS before sysyprep starts running its next pass after the image is pushed? I saw that in some of our earlier images, a pre-sysprep measure was to delete the hostname.arc and wfacss.reg from the WFS, but not sure why that wouldn’t been there, unless it was saving the computer name/licensing on the image and someone didn’t want that to happen.

Any ideas or clarity on the subject would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!

You should be able to write a new hostname.arc file in the WFS partition using the xwfile command.
