Hi,
I am using Wyse 3040’s with a mix of dual and single displays and they have been working for a long time with no issues.
I recently created a new WMS server (as I couldn’t upgrade to 2.0) and created a new config by copying the settings across.
On WMS 1.0 and Wyse ThinOS 8.4_112 all was well but on WMS 2.0 and 8.6.412 the 3040 freezes after 10 minutes or so. The only solution is to pull the power. They seem to freeze when the screensaver (set to turn off display) turns on.
I have tried 8.6.303 and BIOS 1.4 and 1.5. My environment is RDS 2016 broker but it will freeze even the Wyse login screen before logging in if it is left sitting. I can VNC on to the frozen TC and see the frozen lock screen.
I have seen references to some people saying that freezing on the screensaver is a known issue but not sure how anyone has solved it?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
I’ve added my config below

July 5, 2020 at 1:23 pm #52480Can you try any other 8.6 build?
CG
July 6, 2020 at 3:11 pm #52496Try changing the picture or image or leave it as default. Also try Sleep=0 and see if it freezes after a certain time frame.
Its been an intermittent issue with various firmware versions from my experience. 8.6_206 doesn’t seem to freeze, haven’t moved to 8.6_303.
July 8, 2020 at 5:47 pm #52539Thanks for the suggestions. I have set the sleep to 0 and also disabled the screensaver and it didn’t seem to freeze overnight. I’d like to give 8.6_203 a try but it doesn’t seem to be on the Dell download site. Is there somewhere else I can download it from?
Thanks again for your help
July 8, 2020 at 5:51 pm #52540It is.
Select the latest and click on Older Versions in the details.CG
July 9, 2020 at 3:50 pm #52562I managed to get 8.6_206 installed on a few devices and some of them are still freezing. It’s probably too early to tell but it does seem slightly better. Only some of them freeze and only sometimes. Previously they froze every time the screen went off.
The only thing I can think of now is to turn the screensaver off totally and just have them on 24/7 or to start a totally new config?
July 9, 2020 at 4:21 pm #52565Couple things I would try, don’t know if it will fix anything but I’ve found oddities other areas where it has fixed stuff:
- Reset monitor back to factory. I know its the thin client freezing but I’ve had stranger things occur like monitors being set to DP1.2 for daisy chaining from one DP out, but then going back to a thin client with DP 1.2 enabled it doesn’t play nice, DP 1.2 also doesn’t like WD19 docks if enabled and on two separate ports
- Change your screensaver image. If its a PNG make it JPG, if its BMP make it JPG. If its JPG resize it and save it and re-upload it, you never know.
- What happens if you do Sleep=20 but no screensaver, does it wake from sleep?
- Since it sounds easily reproducible, enable a persistent log capture and see what comes back on the logs when you power cycle. I was never able to get a log capture because i couldn’t consistently reproduce it.
July 10, 2020 at 3:00 pm #52589Brian, thanks for the suggestions – the lock screen image and logon logo were PNG so I’ve changed them to a jpg. Some units are still freezing but I’ll keep an eye on them to see if it’s any better.
I got a capture and the entires in the log from the time of the event are:-
16:38:01.723 trigger Trap: Page fault, EIP 0x145eca, CR2 0x24
16:38:43.932 scard exit proc=0x30150cc mmsv_gst1.0
16:38:43.933 The thread (mmsv_gst1.0 – mmsv_gst1.0 -p A10Q) will wait to exitI’m afraid this means nothing to me and Google doesn’t return much. I’ve sent the logs to Dell also so I’ll see what can find out.
July 10, 2020 at 6:28 pm #52592Another thing you can try is Wipe the device or Unregister the device. When you go to the Dashboard view of WMS click on the Device name like WT509a4c03f2c4 and when your looking at the device level info under More Options at the top righ the only drop down option is Delete, Delete the device from WMS and then re-register it and see if the behavior persists.
I’ve had random issues in the past where Deleting the device entry from WMS altogether has fixed thing when you register it again.
July 17, 2020 at 2:16 pm #52640Brian – looks like you got it – a wipe and re-register of the device sorts it. I’ve wiped/re-registered all of the devices and everything has been working perfectly for the last few days. Never would have guessed that one!
Thanks to both of you for your help with this!
July 22, 2020 at 4:29 pm #52661Glad that worked.
I’ve had to fully delete devices from WMS in the past to get them to re-register and it sometimes fixes other oddities.
