    Hello everyone,

We are receiving information from partners that the Wyse 3040 models are coming end of life this year…

Without official answer from them on which product will replace it, I am asking the community if you guys already know an equivalent option (specs/price).

FYI, we have deployed more than one hundred Wyse 3040 w/PCOIP (ThinOS) managed online by Wyse Management Suite (WMS)… because it was a good hardware with good price/features…

I hope we can keep the same process with a similar model from the Wyse portfolio.

    Thanks.
    Regards.
    Eric

Is there any update on this? I also heard the 3040 is going bye and there will not be a replacement for it. Also I noticed every 3040 is not available on Dell’s website last week.

I am very concerned about this since the 5070 thin client form factor is huge for no apparent reason. It is larger than our Optiplex 5070 PC’s.

If they don’t come out with something in the similar form factor I will have to start using ncomputing devices or something else.

First of all, the 3040 will not go away this year.
Second, not always is size that matters. You cannot compare cheap computing devices with Wyse clients. And the OptiPlex Micro Form Factor chassis is the same size compared with the Wyse 5070.

I just compared the 5070 thin client we have to our Optiplex MFF pc and they are the same size. For some odd reason I thought they where much larger, sorry about that.

In our establishment (medical) size does matter. Our desk are very small and space is extremely limited with all the other items that are in and around the desk. I will not go into the details of everything I tried with the 5070’s because it is alot (monitor mount, wall/under desk mount, monitor with arm mount and others), but there was no solution that made our doctors happy.

The 3040’s P monitor mount works great because it really tucks in behind the monitor.

Do you think dell will come out with something that is similar in size to the 3040 once it is EOL?

Not that I am aware of. But that does mean anything.

Have you thought about the OptiPlex 3090 Ultra? This one fits completely in the monitor stand.
Not a thin client thought, but in case size matters, maybe the best choice.

YES, I would love to do those but my boss gave me the big NO when she saw the price of $700.00 per as compared to the $375.00 for the 3040.

Thanks for the information though, I appreciate it.

I doubt Dell/Wyse would stop the 3040 models as there isn’t anything equivalent in their range of products.

however, given all the issues and the lack of compatibility with ThinOS for a lot of accessories/smartcards, a lot of people are looking at IGEL products now on the market…

should Wyse decide to put the 3040 EoL, everyone will buy IGEL licenses to install on the hardware and have a better experience.

competition is fierce but client support, even for small accounts/volumes is key with VDI!

If they do I will move to a different platform. My thought is using either mini pc and/or stick pc’s with windows 10 built in. Lock down windows 10 using group policies and use remote desktop. There are many of them out there priced lower than $350.00.

I have used the Terryza stick pc’s for our digital signage and other things in the company. They are so cheap we just have spares sitting on shelf to replace them. Honestly it has just ran for the past couple years with no issue.

Dell confirmed to me also today, that 3040 went EOL mid december, and OptiPlex 3000 will be available from today.

    This said:

No updates on Dell’s webpages. They have now removed 3040 as current model, and I can’t find any information / specs about the OptiPlex 3000.

Anyone in here who knows something about the new model??

Dell says it’s performing 30% better than the 5070, and comes with ThinOS from the beginning. From May it will also be delivered with Win 10 IoT.

I posted information about the New OptiPlex 3000 Thin Client, if you follow the link to the Dell landing page, there is a link to speak to someone about ordering information. Being new, it will take some time to get the Dell website updated for global ordering.
