We’re trying to apply a BIOS password to our 5070/5010 devices via WMS 1.4. I’ve tried 2 separate passwords, meeting the specified criteria in WMS, but, it never applies. My test 5070 is on 8.6_019, and in the system information tab, always displays the error “WMS agent failed to update BIOS settings (invalid credential)”. I’ve tried rebooting several times just in case, but no luck.

    BIOS is version 1.1.3.

I’m fairly sure if I do the “Sync BIOS Admin Password” function within the specified terminal via WMS, that will work. That doesn’t really work for us though as we have about 1300 devices today, with 5000 in total expected eventually.

    Thanks in advance.

Could you post screenshots of what you have configured?

Sure. I’ve only screenshot the BIOS section of our config. Let me know if you’d like any other sections.

Have you tried to sync the BIOS password? Does that help?
If yes, you can do that for all clients once.
Go to Jobs and click on “More Action”. Now you can select “Sync BIOS Admin Password” for all clients.

I’ll test it again. In our initial testing, it did work. I guess I’m just trying to avoid having to do this step again and again for new devices. I didn’t open a ticket yet with support, so, there’s always that. Perhaps it’s a bug. I’ll try the sync option on a few terminals and see what I get.

I stand corrected. Even the “Sync BIOS Admin Password” command isn’t working.

Let me update this thread, since I always hate finding open ended ones for issues I am having. 🙂

The sync BIOS Admin password does indeed work. However, what you have to do is sync the BIOS Admin password once for your terminals basically out of the box, for any new BIOS settings/passwords you want to apply. For example everyone probably knows that the BIOS password for Wyse units out of the box is F******t. If you want to change it for 100 deployed terminals to Biospass1, you have to perform the Sync BIOS Admin password first, tell WMS the password they currently have (whether it is still F** or something you changed it to on deployment), THEN your BIOS changes via a WMS policy will apply.

In a nutshell: WMS needs to be told the BIOS Admin password currently for your deployed units, via the Sync command, before it can apply any new/custom settings.

Thank you @epa80. Your answer gave me inspiration to work through the trouble i was having with auto-logon error that I just started having Deploying new domain joined wyse terminals. already configured terminals are fine, but any new deployments were not accepting autologon configuration changes to use a domain account.
