    Guys

I’m having an issue with the ica connections on my new Win CE6 S30’s.

I manually configured one terminal and pulled the config off this device.

When I pushed the config to another S30 (same firmware – 656.0) it appeared to work ok but when I went to lauch the ica it got as far as negotiating connections before returning to the single button connect screen I had configured.

Has anyone had a similar issue?

It seems kind of an obvious thing to check on reflection but the issue was the TSC licence from the original S30 was being deployed to my target terminals and for that reason an ICA connection could not be established. Deleting the TSC licence stored on my original machine and taking the configuration from the terminal again resolved my problem. I have deployed configs to hundreds of S30 CE5 terminals and not seen this occur. This was the first CE 6 terminal I had worked with.

This incident has highlighted what could be a serious issue for my environment. The terminals we have deployed consist largely of S30s and V30L’s. I have never been able to capture an image of either of these devices.

We have Altiris deployed to manage our HP blades and when I attempt to PXE boot one of the Wyse terminals they pick up the Altiris Server instead of the WDM Server.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue?

Is there a way to capture a Win CE5 image from an S30 or V30L without a PXE boot?

Does anyone have a S30 or V30L image with the standard addons I could deploy ?

    Rgds

The only way to create a customized CE 5.0 or CE 6.0 image (without using PXE) is to get a CE primer (“empty” firmware without add-ons) and any add-on files you need from Wyse customer support, and then following ConfGen’s guide to creating and bundling a custom config into your image. (located here.)

Officially, Wyse doesn’t want you using PXE to create images for S30 and V30 terminals. I’m not completely sure why, but they disabled the ability to do so from S30, 3150 and V30 terminals in WDM 4.7.2, and added an add-on to the more recent firmware builds which disables the PXE feature (unless you hold the “p” key while booting.)

As for the “fully loaded” CE 6.0 image, you’ll have to call Wyse to get that too. They aren’t posting any CE 6.0 stuff on their site because it’s a paid upgrade for anyone running CE 5.0 (but it installs on any hardware-compatible CE 5.0 device without checking for a license), so you’ll have to call them up and tell them you have CE 6.0 licensed S30 terminals and need the necessary firmware files to support them.

In my experience, Customer Support won’t provide these files to you either (and they’re pretty snippy about it, too), so your best bet would be to call your local sales rep or sales engineer if you have such contacts.
