Ok, the V30 dual is a useless piece of equipment. Suggest if you are looking for a thin client that will support dual monitor RDP or widescreen RDP, you look somewhere else.

I have been struggling with the V30 Dual for about 4 weeks now. No Luck.
    Things i have leared:

V30 Dual mode does not support RDP monitor spanning – you cannot get the RDP session to be across both screens, in fact i couldnt figure out how to get anything on the second screen except my mouse and a config window that i dragged, not even IE on the second window.. Pretty lame!

V30 Dual has DVI support but if you set it to 1680×1050 x60hz (widescreen LCD) your DVI monitor goes blank, no screen will appear. It will however support this resolution on Analog if you convert the DVI port with the convert to VGA.

Even if you get 1680×1050 to work, when you try to open an RDP session in full screen it gives you a mini band of RDP down the center. It appears at though the RDP is 300 pixels wide, 1050 pixel tall, you can use the session (keyboard works, etc) but the rest of the screen is black

    Other things that dont work:
2X Thinclient loaded off PXE will not support dual monitor mode since it doesnt know what kind of video card is in it

bottom line, dont waste your money on these units, Im going to try and return mine in exchange for the V90 Dual in hopes of better sucess.

    Hi dajuice,

Yes, you are 100% correct. The Microsoft RDP 5x client does not support spanning the desktop across two monitors. At this stage MS have not committed on when the RDP6 client will be supported on CE.

If you look at XPe and load the MS RDP 6 client it will span both screens no problem. You will have to upgrade the client that ships with the V90L.

With the splitting 2 wide screens CE is doing this naively so it assumes both screens are wide screens. It is possible to do this on some PC’s as there is an application (desktop manager) that allows you to re-size windows on each output. Also many Vid cards like ATI ship with Hydra which does great desktop management. CE does not have a built in desktop manager so its not as flexible.

See how you go with XPe, I am not sure if there is any desktop management software on the units but they will span for sure. Also I think Wyse are releasing some server software to handle the RDP spanning soon as well.

On the Citrix side CE will span Windows no problems as well as putting apps in each windows. I am not sure if the CE ICA client support extended desktop yet.

    Cheers,
    -TT

I think that Wyse just needs to make these things clear on their website so people understand the limitations before purchasing. There’s nothing wrong with the V30 in itself, its great for what is designed to do. However even when i figured that dual screen would not work I was thinking that the video card in the unit will support a wide screen resolution at a single screen. So I could have deployed the units i purchased with a couple of widescreen 20″ LCD’s running 1680×1050. But RDP 5.5 should be able to support that resolution so im disappointed that i couldnt even use it for that.

    I agree!

But it does give me a reason to try and run a site like this, more information and a few guides on the general setup would save so much time testing.

Also, if you want a cheaper option the V50L (Linux) will do the desktop spanning but get an eval unit and test the wide-screen format…

The open source group reverse engineered RDP and do what they like to it. The V50L is supposed to support spanning RDP. I think I may do an article on this with all the supported options as it is really confusing. I just need to get my hands on a few test units…
