Hi There.
At this moment we are running WMS 3.3 for managing our ThinOS 8.6 and 9.1 (9.1.2101) Wyse 3040 clients. Only the 8.6 clients are production clients, the 9.1 are in test phase. Clients connect to a Vmware horizon environment.
What we are seeing is that USB redirection on 9.1 is not functioning properly, while on 8.6 all is working fine. When a user working on a 9.1 client inserts a USB device the device is not redirected to the Windows OS. Only when the USB device is attached to the Thin client before booting (cold plug), the device is available after logging in to the desktop pool. However when the user attaches the USB device when already logged in to the desktop, the device is not redirected.
Looking at the Event Log i can see the USB device is detected, but not redirected to the virtual OS:
USB: Flash Drive SKUSB20 vid:0x1516 pid:0x8628 connected
Usb Disk Partition da0p1 is addedOf cource we have the USB redirection policy enabled. Disk mapping is disabled. No exeptions. No VID/PID inclusions.
Does anyone have a clue how to fix this?
Greetings!July 13, 2021 at 10:54 am #105786Thanks for your reply!
Seems like a bug then and we have to wait….
July 16, 2021 at 11:30 am #105799Our Dell contact also informed us that an update should be released next week that should fix the USB redirection issues.
July 16, 2021 at 7:25 pm #105803Was the 9.1.3112 firmware released today (07/16/2021) the ‘update that should be released to resolve this’? If so, it does not resolve the redirection issues for me in testing.
July 19, 2021 at 1:25 pm #105804I can confirm what @tterpstra is saying. The 9.1.3112 does NOT fix the USB redirection issues.
July 22, 2021 at 7:46 pm #105829@Summa, and others, are you using the Wyse clients to connect to VMware Horizon? I am being told by Dell that this is an issue with the Horizon client, and not Dell’s responsibility. If this isn’t passing USB for other systems (Citrix, Windows, etc) then I still lean toward Dell.
Something to note, the Horizon agent version for all Wyse 8.6.x firmware is 5.1 by default (and I never had issues with USB redirection). The only available packages that I can find for the 9.1 firmware are Horizon 8.1 or 8.2. Testing on my laptop with 8.2 did not pass USB either when I was on the call with Dell, but did today (I reinstalled in the meantime), testing with 5.2 (the closest version to 5.1 that I had on hand) also worked to pass USB.
July 26, 2021 at 9:53 am #105838With all the new updates I now can’t even sign into Horizon with a Wyse : Horizon : “connexion failed!” and what’s funnier is the Dell technicien even told me he couldn’t login and I need to try if I can 😀
@tterpstra I did try usb redirection with a Ubuntu horizon client app and it was working so it is Dell’s fault not Linux horizon app’s faultJuly 26, 2021 at 2:22 pm #105840ok it was a special character at the end on my password “>” the problem (just like “&”)
unfortunatly I did all the updates and usb still not working
July 26, 2021 at 2:33 pm #105841in PCoIP but it looks like it’s working fine in blast AND they fixed the cursor “lag” that we have with other 9.x version in Blast so I guess i’ll pass our production in blast
August 3, 2021 at 2:10 pm #105902Did anyone tested the lastest VwareHorizon Package?
Probleemoplossingen en verbeteringen
New features:
– Supports VMware Horizon v2103.8.2.0.17742757.
– Added support to Multimedia Redirection in Blast session.
– USB redirection updates.August 3, 2021 at 2:21 pm #105903Yes we did, and made no difference.
September 28, 2021 at 8:40 pm #106274I have had two different types of USB hardware that are non-standard that have not worked on the 9.1.x firmware; I have a feature request in for them to test my specific USB devices and possibly add them to a future firmware release, but I am not hopeful that it will be anytime soon.
Has anyone else had any luck?
September 28, 2021 at 9:57 pm #106275What is the usb device you want to redirect?
September 28, 2021 at 10:03 pm #106276The primary device (we have ~250 of these in production running on the 8.6.x firmware) is a multicolored tower light, which is used in manufacturing. Specifically the USB56LB model.
https://www.signaworks.com/products/tower-lights/usb-interface-led-tower-lights.htmlThe other device is a USB bluetooth adapter, which I do not currently have the model information for.
I’ve also worked with Dell tech support to attempt manual override of the USB passthrough using the device ID with no success.
September 30, 2021 at 12:05 am #106278Hi everyone,
Looking for some information as to why scanner redirection isn’t working. Currently running Horizon 8 and ThinOS 9.1. We are testing this to see if we could implement this new system in production.
We have the Device Scanner redirection enabled and the Wyse does pick up the device via Event Log. But when we go to try to scan something, nothing happens.
Excuse my lack of experience, but I’m really new to this kind of environment and looking for any feedback on solutions that others may have had in a possibly similar situation.
I apologize if I left out any needed information.
Thanks to everyone in advance!
