Hello,
How do I upgrade my wyse 3040 Thinclients from 9.1.2101 to the latest (9.3.1129) /2205?
Can I upgrade directly or do I have to upgrade to 9.1.3129 first?
If yes, do i use the ‘9,1 to 9.1.3129’ ?
Please help 🙂
May 31, 2022 at 10:36 am #107633Hi,
Yes you have to upgrade first to 9.1.3129 with the file “OS_Web_9.1Full_v9.1.3129.zip”.
Then you can upgrade to 2205 with the file “OS_Web_2205_9.3.1129.zip”.
June 24, 2022 at 10:15 am #107691Soooo…
I just did this on my test wyse.
Added the new Firmware, waited for it to upgrade, then added the second package.
How do I do this for the rest of my organisation? How do I keep it user friendly? It instantly asks for reboots??
June 28, 2022 at 9:45 am #107697Basically you create two groups in WMS and first move all clients to the first group to make the upgrade to 9.1.3129. This you do the last thing before you go home for the day (or from home if you are so inclined). The next day you move all the clients to the second group with the upgrade to 9.3.1129 before you go home. This will cause the leaste amount of disruptions. Even if the client promts for a reboot there is the option for the user to postpone this until the next time the client restarts.
July 19, 2022 at 6:15 am #107760And after they’re upgraded, do I move them to a new group or just keep them in the newest group (which still has the firmware upgrade)
And in this case, does this mean if I have multiple configurations (for example different countries) I have to make a lot of ‘upgrade groups’?
Example:
For Wyses in France
Current -> France 9.1.3 -> France 9.3.1
For Wyses in Germany
Current -> Germany 9.1.3 -> Germany 9.3.1
July 22, 2022 at 3:24 pm #107763I keep my units in the same group. They will ignore the update if it is the same version as the unit already has. This also mean that if I move other units into this group later they will also be upgraded.
There are many ways to skin a cat. If you want to keep your groups clean you could do it like this:
Main group (all common settings for all countries applies to all units)
— subgroup for firmware upgrades (if applied to all units at once)
— — sub sub group for Germany (localized settings for language, keyboard and more)
— — sub sub group for France (localized settings for language, keyboard and more)In this scenario you could first set the firmware upgrade group to upgrade all units to 9.1.3 and wait until all units are in compliance with the upgrade. In the next step you change settings and upgrade all units to 9.3.1 and they will follow.
The other way is as you described to have subgroups for upgrades in each country setting.
Main group (all common settings for all countries applies to all units)
— sub group for Germany (localized settings for language, keyboard and more)
— — sub sub group for firmware upgrade to 9.1.3
— — sub sub group for firmware upgrade to 9.3.1
— sub group for France (localized settings for language, keyboard and more)
— — sub sub group for firmware upgrade to 9.1.3
— — sub sub group for firmware upgrade to 9.3.1 -
