ThinOS 9.x video resolution in Citrix

    Hi Thomas,

    What is the possibility to control the camera resolution in Citrix session for ThinOS 9.x devices? We are using WMS cloud portal to manage a bunch of Dell ThinOS laptops and it doesn’t look like there are any options to manage the camera resolution or quality in 9.x for Citrix sessions.

    Are there any plans to add camera controls in the future or at least any documentation that explains the logic that is taking place to decide the resolution and quality that will be redirected

    From what I have heard, there are no plans to bring this back as the camera quality adjustments are nowadays automatically done by the remote protocol. However, you prove wrong.

    Having the feature to control the settings or at least knowing what are the limits, will help us take measures to make camera experience better.

    For example our users are reporting that their camera quality is extremely poor and it does look like compression is high and resolution is low. However we have no idea if it is a limitation of the ThinOS device, is it Citrix compatibility issue, bandwidth issue, or resource issue on the VDI. All we know is that the problem started after devices were upgraded to ThinOS 9.x

    That is very frustrating and our management requests answers that we cannot provide due to lack of any documentation.

    What does the image look like on the device only, using the peripherals section you should be able to see the camera image

    ThinOS preview window is small and the image looks fine for its size.

    When you connect to the VDI and use jabber, webex, or zoom the camera quality is awful.

    Even the camera preview on these apps shows poor camera quality. And when you share your camera with the rest of the people in the meeting it is like you are the only one using webcam from the 90’s

    It looks like resolution is only 640×480 and we have installed ThinOS packages for Zoom, webex and Jabber.

    Devices that we use are Dell wyse 5470 laptops and camera on them has much larger resolution.

    Same devices running ThinOS 8.x with Cisco Jabber plugin, have great camera quality when on Cisco Jabber calls.

    Either the software is incapable to use the optimal settings or there is some limitation put intentionally. Either case would be great to have control over the settings and some documentation too.
