Hi,
Sorry if this has been posted before I did search but couldn’t find anything.
I was wondering if anyone has any documentation on setting up remote printing using the Microsoft Remote Desktop Services Broker.
My setup is:
ThinOS 9.1
Windows Server 2019 setup with a remote desktop gateway.
I have the options enabled for “map printers” and “enable USB Redirection” but I cannot seem to get the Terminal Server to see the local printer.
ThinOS can see the USB printer and can print a test page.
Thanks in advance.
Open the Printer configuration on the system. Maybe you already see the attached printer there.
Make sure that the string in “Printer Identification” is exactly (100% and case-sensitive) the same as the printer driver name on your Windows server (Printer properties – Advanced – Driver).

Thanks for the reply.
What Printer class would you recommend using? PS, PCL4 or PCL5?
The printer I am testing with is HP Officejet Pro 6230. Driver is installed on the server.
I have the “map printers” option enabled in Admin Policy Tool. I couldn’t see much in the administation guide to explain the difference between “map printers” and “USB Redirection” options.
I have managed to map a local USB disk drive so I can only presume it is a driver problem.
Thanks again.
Edit: also just to confirm, the string in “Printer Identification” is exactly the same as the printer driver name on the server (uppercase & lowercase characters etc)
Printer Class does not matter. You do not need to specify this.
Do not use USB redirection for printers. Just use the standard printer mapping.

I am going to try a few different drivers until I can find one that works.
I presume I need to have the printer installed to the windows sever to port LPT1? I don’t fully understand the logic of that but thats all I could find online on how the printer needs to be setup.
I normally configure printers to their IP address but I am limited in this case as a VPN is not possible which is why I am using the gateway and hoping to get print mapping up and running.
