This is my first post here, I’m glad to be a member of the community. I searched but couldn’t find anyone with this specific problem.

I just purchased a Wyse 5070. It came with ThinOS 9.3. I want to set it up manually (like I’ve been doing for the past 15 years with older Wyse thin clients…without using WMS or importing INI files). I realized that in order to do this I’d have to downgrade the OS, so I am now running OS 8.6_807.

    My problem:
When using DHCP, the network does not connect until I unplug and re-plug the network cable from the built-in NIC. On boot, the IP address comes up all zeroes in the System Information/ENET tab. If I unplug and then re-plug the network cable, the IP address is assigned immediately. Nothing is shown in the server’s DHCP logs until the cable is unplugged/re-plugged in. When it’s re-plugged in the DHCP server has normal “renewed”/”update successful” entries.

I have tried different switches with the same result.

In testing, I assigned a static IP address rather than using DHCP, and the client connects immediately on boot.

I’ve tried resetting the BIOS to factory defaults, as well as enabling/disabling PXE on the NIC in the BIOS.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Mike

I ended up contacting Dell and they determined that it was a hardware issue. They replaced the motherboard and now it works as it should. In 25 years I’ve never seen a problem like this.

    Good luck,

    Mike
