Anyone here have a problem with screen flicker using the S90? With the screen refresh rate set at 60 Hertz, there is a very noticeable wave that runs through the screen. It gradually gets better as you raise the rate up to the max of 75 Hertz, however, at 75 there is a distracting flicker all over the screen.

I have tried installing new monitor drivers and am having the same problem on 3 different models of monitors.

    Any suggestions?

    LCD or CRT monitors?

If it’s a CRT, I wouldn’t be afraid to go higher with the refresh rate. Also check and make sure it isn’t close to other monitors or anything that has a strong magnet in it, however, the magnet thing usually gives you a rainbow effect.

If it’s an LCD, how are you connecting it to the device?

Are you using a DVI to VGA adapter? If so, try another, it could be your problem.

Is the monitor cable properly shielded? Most cables have that filter attached to it, does yours have one?

Can you replace the monitor cable? Most monitors these days have a cable that you can detach from the monitor. Try a new on and see if it fixes it for you.

With an LCD, you’ll also want to make sure you’re running in the native resolution at the proper refresh rate (probably 60hz). Some monitors don’t respond well at all when they aren’t in their native modes. If you’ve got a 17″, try 1024×768, and 1280×1024 for a 19″.

With that said, I have v90s and I haven’t had any problems. However, I have a machine at home that, no matter what I do, there is a wavy line on any LCD monitor I put it on. I’ve attributed it to the video card, but I’m too cheap to buy a new one to see if thats the problem. 🙂

You know, it could also be your power. If you’re not properly grounded, it could be generating enough noise to cause a problem like that. Now, noise might not be the proper term there, but it’s the best thing I could describe it. Check the power cable (maybe try another PSU?) and any surge protectors you might be using.

Thanks for the reply Joe. I am using LCD’s.

I had already tried 3 different monitors, used DVI to VGA cables, VGA to VGA cables, verified that all the cables had the magnetic shields attached, tried different resolutions, etc.

The one thing I had not done, was set up the client at another desk. Your last suggestion proved to be a winner. Apparently I’ve got a power problem at my desk, as everything looked fine when hooked up down the hall.

    Thanks again!

Great! I’m glad that worked for you. It might be as easy as swapping out surge protectors, or heck, maybe just putting one on if you’re not using one now. Either way, glad you got it working!

    Hi Wysenhimer,
I’ve seen similar ‘waves’ on an s90 and also a couple of s10’s recently (just this last month)

The problem was identified by a customer, swapping the Winterm out fixed the problem. Bringing their winterm back to the office, hooking up a different monitor – the problem was still there and noticable. Reflashing, changing refresh rates, factory resetting etc made no difference. I was wondering if perhaps there was a manufacturing problem or bad batch… Interesting if anyone else had see this.

We have a number of S90’s doing the same thing and have opened a ticket with Wyse about it.
