hi,
i have got a S90 new image and want to pull the image in Rapport with “Get Device Image” option.
Problem is, when i boot my S90 it does pick up an IP – no issues – but when i check in Rapport and right click on this device i do not get the option of “Get Device Image (requires .PXE)”. Without this option i cannot pull the image in Rapport.
Can someone pls advice what is wrong? – or is there some problem with S90?
Thanks.
December 9, 2007 at 10:48 pm #10979Hi,
Is the S90 on the same subnet as the WDM server? IF they are not you will need to configure IP helpers to get PXE working. This is a common requirement for any PXE based system (like RIS, Alteris etc)
Have a search on this site for “PXE” and there is a doc on setting this up on Cisco equipment,
Cheers,
-TTDecember 9, 2007 at 10:53 pm #10980Thanks mate.
yes – my S90 and Rapport are both on same subnet. I am using Rapport v4.4.1 – not sure if this is the issue. I have applied all latest hotfixes but no luck.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.
December 10, 2007 at 8:02 am #10983Hi mikev,
how did you get the S90 in the Device Manager? Manually or did it appear itself. Check the Control Panel/Rapport applet if it reflects the IP address of the Rapport (ups, WDM) server.
When you reboot the S90 does it do a DHCP/PXE before loading Windows XPe?
Do you have a DHCP server running on the net?ConfGen
December 10, 2007 at 9:46 pm #10988Hi ConfGen.
My S90 automatically appears in the device manager.
In the control panel it does reflect the correct IP of Rapport v4.4.1 server.
Also, at bootup it does a DHCP/PXE and picks up an IP automatically.
Everything looks oK but S90 is not showing the option of “Get Device Image” in the Rapport console –
I tried 9150 and it works fine and gives me the option of “Get Device Image”.
Regards.
December 11, 2007 at 4:26 pm #10999Hi,
and when the S90 boots up, does it say “Local boot” during the PXE request?
Is it in the same LAN like the 9150?ConfGen
December 11, 2007 at 11:43 pm #11006yes – it is in the same lan and does say local boot – picks up an IP successfully but cannot see “Get Device Image” option in rapport v4.4.1.
January 21, 2008 at 11:35 am #11407I am having the same problem with the same wyse model. Did anyone ever find a solution for this?
January 21, 2008 at 4:22 pm #11409If PXE is setup on the network properly, and no other devices out there are answering the PXE requests, everything should work fine. Make sure the device is set to boot to lan/network before IDE, otherwise it won’t be able to PXE boot.
If it’s set to PXE boot, it should find the PXE server even if a job isn’t requesting. If the information flashes too fast, go into the BIOS of the device and set the first boot device to lan/network/pxe, and disable the rest of the boot devices. Now start it back up and you should be able to see the information. Is it picking up the right server?
Out of curiosity, what does it say in device manger under Imageable. It should say yes, but if it’s not PXE booting properly, it will say no.
January 23, 2008 at 11:38 am #11427That brings me to a separate problem I am having. We bought USB keyboards for the thin clients and they do not initialize untill after initial boot. How can I get into the bios?
I was getting a PXE-E51 error, but I got one step closer to the solution by enabling fastboot in the spantree settings on my switch. Now I see it get a bunch of ips before it goes to windows. (I am assuming these are the DHCP assignments.)
WDM shows Bootable=Yes
From what you said, it might just be the bios…January 23, 2008 at 11:41 am #11428I forgot to list the model we use: They are Winterm S90 running XPe.
January 23, 2008 at 2:36 pm #11429I don’t have any s90 machines, so I’m not very familiar with them. However, I think thats just an S class with Windows XPE, correct?
I have a TON of s30 devices, and I don’t have any problems using USB keyboards in the BIOS. Do you have any other keyboards you can try to use?
I don’t even think there is an option in the BIOS for USB support. If I remember correctly, the only thing you can do is change the boot order and the administrator password…
January 25, 2008 at 8:18 am #11454Hi Guys,
We have 3 different issues in the one post, lets start a new thread for the USB keyboard issue and the PXE setup.
Mike did you get your S90 to image in the end? If its a new S90 (part number ends in a “L”) make sure you have all of the patches from this site on the Rapport 4.4.1 server. I say this as because your 9150’s work I am assuming Rapport is working but is not sure how to deal with this newer S90,
Cheers,
-TTJanuary 25, 2008 at 12:23 pm #11459This post is about the PXE issue. The USB keyboard was more of a side note. Its not an “approved” keyboard so there is really no need to start a seperate post about it. I need to get the bios in order to double check the boot order, so I can make sure PXE is first.
I still haven’t been able to pull the image through WDM and am still convinced it is a PXE issue. I was able to push an image though. I’ll keep trying things and will post again when I arrive at some conclusions.
I will double check my WDM server patches but I think I have them all patched to the latest version.January 25, 2008 at 1:17 pm #11460Also compare the content of ftproottoolssa with the files from the original install or latest hotfix.
Sometimes these are not updated correctly and cause this kind if trouble.CG
