    Hi

I’m new to Wyse thin clients and looking to get one from Ebay for testing purposes. I came across this forum and been reading through many threads which have answered many of my questions. However, I’m a little unsure about the USB redirection. I intend to use the Wyse S10 to connect to a virtual machine Windows XP Pro hosted on a VMware ESXi host. No View or brokers just straight RDP connection. I’ve got a few questions:

    – If the S10 doesn’t have the latest firmware what are my options? Is it expensive to buy the latest firmware version rather than get a maintenance contract?

    – I’ve read about TCX suite 4. Will I be able to connect a PDA such as a PalmOne Zire (I know old) via USB and then use with Palm Desktop on the virtual machine? Do I need TCX for this or will it work without?

Thanks for your help! I’m sure I’ll have plenty of questions once I get the S10 in my hands 😉

    Hi,

a ThinOS Upgrade would cost around 30,-€ and a year maintenance around 6,-€.
If the Palm would work or not cannot be answered without testing but as soon as you have the latest WTOS version on the client you can download an eval version of TCX from Wyse.com and test yourself. Without TCX it will not work for sure.

    ConfGen,

Thanks for your reply. I’ll get the S10 and then do some testing. Are ThinOS upgrades, maintenance contracts and TCX licenses available to purchase direct from Wyse or must I find a reseller?

There could be another difficulty (except TCX absence) with making USB device working with S10: your device may require to many electric power from USB port – which S10 can’t supply.

Wyse is not selling directly so you need to find a reseller.
But you can contact Wyse and they will tell you a reseller.
