When (and if) will ThinOS be updated with the fast RDP 7 code that’s in Windows 2008 R2? We are testing with a C10LE and must admit it’s faster than a S10 but not as fast as a Windows XP SP3 pc with RDP 7 installed.

What do you mean with “is faster” ? Do you mean screen updates, data transfer or anything else.

If you would compare RDP 6 with 7 it’s more like functionality it doesn’t makes it faster, the C10LE is faster regarding screen updates because it has a update to date hardware.
A “think client/PC” will always be faster as it has a dedicated graphic card for the screen updates.

With ‘faster’ I mean screen display of graphics. Try running Bing Maps ‘Birds Eye View’ on a Wyse 1200 over a 4 Mbit/s ADSL link. Pretty slow, huh? Now do the same with a S10 (a bit faster). Now try with a Wyse C10LE (still faster). Now try with Windows XP SP3 and a RDP7 client. Really fast. And XP is the fastest because of RDP 7. And RDP 7 isn’t yet in the C10LE only in the Windows Embedded versions of the Wyses.

For those who aren’t up to date: Windows 2008 R2 and RDP 7 are shaking the whole remote desktop business. Windows Media player runs incredibly smooth. However Flash isn’t up to speed yet, though better than RDP 6.x. And that’s what our customers are asking for: Google and Bing Maps and Youtube. Because unfortunately for us IT guys, more and more business content is nowadays on Youtube. So you have to provide it, be it not today than somewhere in the near future.

ahh ok, well i guess you won’t get the same graphical speed with a “thin client” compare to a “think client”.
The advances of a thin client has to be found on a different corner.

RDP 7 is planned for the coming release of WTOS7. but as aLi already stated correctly, you canot compare a full blown, highly equipped PC with a Thin Client.
Wyse is planning to port WTOS to their R-class so this will give you for sure more speed, even with the current WTOS version.
