Predicament with D10DP/5010 units (looking for 8.5_024 download and BIOSes)

So, we were running ThinOS 8.4_112 for a while, on our 70+ D10DP/5010 with PCoIP thin clients, and everything was fine, but then we went and upgraded VMware Tools on all VMs over a weekend.

On Monday, there was an immediate problem on all of the VDIs with the mouse cursor in applications.  An almost invisible white thin cursor where there should be a black one, flashing cursor missing, and so on in Notepad, Excel, and such.

I did some searches and the problem was supposedly fixed in ThinOS 8.5, but we didn’t have ThinOS maintenance anymore and rather than downgrade all the tools on all the VMs, we logged onto our Dell Digital Locker to see if we could download the newer ThinOS to fix the issue.

Unfortunately, the ThinOS contract has expired and we’ve been having trouble getting it renewed, so Dell just blocks you completely from downloading firmware, but we needed a fix immediately.  All D10DP firmware seems to be missing from Dell’s eSupport page as well.  (Only has D10D, not the D10DP or 5010 with PCoIP).

Luckily, I stumbled upon a download of 8.6_013 on this website and flashed it to our D10DPs along with the newest Horizon package, which seemed to solve the cursor issue.  HOWEVER, now some of the units will randomly crash throughout the day with the “Trap” message.  Doesn’t seem to be a rhyme or reason, sometimes they will be fine for days and then sometimes will just crash out of nowhere when they didn’t do this on 8.4_112.

Looking on the Digital Locker, the latest version for download, if I had a working contract, would be OS_Web_v8.5_B020_5010_5040_D10DP_5213_ENG.zip or 8.5_020, so I’m thinking there is a known issue with 8.6_013 and we’d love to downgrade to that… but I can’t get it. 🙁

Anyone know where or, perhaps, maybe you, ConfGen, can provide me with 8.5_020 or 8.5_024?  I’m guessing that release is probably pretty stable.

Also would be cool if, somehow, I could get the latest BIOS for D10DP/5010 with PCoIP, too!  We haven’t flashed BIOSes on these things in a while.

In the meantime, I’m trying to work with CDWG on getting a renewed ThinOS maintenance contract from Dell because we really need to be able to download firmware and BIOSes for our D10DP and 5010 with PCoIP units!

Thank you to anyone, in advance, for helping us out!

Actually, please ignore this.  I just found the downloads on Dell’s support site!   I had to change a category.  SO EMBARRASSED NOW as they weren’t there a week or two ago, I swear!

I notice, still, the BIOS isn’t updated automatically.  It’s also not on the Dell site.  Any idea how to grab the latest PD10_wnos.bin file?

    PD10_wnos is the Firmware.
BIOS file also in the Download section.
    ZD10_bios.bin

Thanks, I’ll give it a try.  Generally anything ZD10 is usually the D10D (not the D10DP), so I was hesitant to try that file…  ZD10_WNOS = Firmware without PCoIP, PD10_WNOS = Firmware with PCoIP, so I figured something bad would happen if I tried to use the ZD10_BIOS file.

BIOS is same. Only firmware is different between PCoIP and non-PCoIP.

Thanks!  I flashed it and it worked.

For future reference, may I ask how to extract the .BIN for the BIOS from the ZIP file in the future?

I looked in the OS_Web_v8.5_B024_5010_5040_D10DP_5213_ENG.ZIP, OS_Web_v8.6_B013_5010_5040_D10DP_5213_ENG.ZIP and also OS_Merlin_v8.6_013_5010_PCoIP_ENG.ZIP but did not see a BIOS file…

BIOS is not included in the firmware download.

    Gotcha..

Thanks for all of your help!  Going to see how stable we are with 3.0U BIOS and 8.5_024 now.  If all is well for a week or two, will try flashing 8.6 again.  Maybe it will behave better on the units that didn’t like 8.6…  *shrug*
