Hello,
I am wondering if any of you are having or have had problems with the wireless 3040 ThinOS thin clients failing to turn on with power on AC turned on. I work at a hospital and we use them in powered carts both Capsa and Enovate. Most of the time when the cart battery dies the thin client powers right up when the cart gets plugged back in but once in a while it does not. When it hasn’t I’ve confirmed in WMS the POAC is turned on in the bios then unlock the cart to get to the thin client. In every case the thin client’s power adapter is on (lighted collar) like in the picture below and I still have to turn it on by hitting the power button. We have close to 600 of these carts and get multiple tickets per day just to go turn them on so I was wondering if anyone else experiences this. I am going to open a ticket with Dell but I have not yet been to reproduce this to be able to troubleshoot.

Currently 1.2.5. I just upgraded it a few weeks ago. I have also noticed another weird power thing with on 3040s. If you have a powered usb hub plugged in it can stop the thin client from rebooting sometimes. I’ve actually pulled out the power adapter cable and the power button stayed on until I unplugged the USB.
Have you confirmed that even though the policy states to Power on AC, is it making it to the device? Have you verified in the BIOS the change is made? Here is my config for the same with acrecovery=PowerOn. I also have an auto on time if someone manually powers it off.

Yes. I have actually went into the bios on the thin client and confirmed. The other techs I work with have done the same and told me it was on in the bios and the thin client didn’t turn on when the cart was plugged in.
Yes. It been happening since we put them in a couple of years ago but really didn’t notice it much because there weren’t that many 3040s most of our carts were 3030s but we swapped them out with 3040s because of some wireless issues. After the swap out we started getting calls every day or almost everyday. Like I said some times it happens but most of the time they turn right back on.
I made a post but I don’t see it. Trying to think out loud and having worked with techs over the years. Does the 3030 power supply work with the 3040 device? Could techs not have swapped out the 3030 PSU’s from the carts and they don’t behave the same when powering 3040 devices? Both the 3030 and 3040 look to have different requirements for power, but if the power port accepts the same terminal from the PSU maybe thats causing different power on behavior?
