    Hi everybody,

We’re in the process of completing a PoC of a Citrix XenApp environment, with a V10L as the Thin Client. We’ve got most of the apps set up and running quite fine, but I’m trying to get the user experience as “widowsized” as possible, to get the transition phase to run smoother.

The main problems are having to do with the initial impression of the desktop. The icons all seem to be 256 color, resulting in a less-than-seamless user experience (going from Windows XP). Is there an easy way to change these to 32-bit coloring (16 or 24 will do fine too)? When using the XenApp Client on a Windows XP desktop, I get nice looking icons, so I guess it’s not XenApp that’s at fault here. The applications themselves, as well as the desktop wallpaper, are also shown in 32-bit, so it’s not that the V10L would be incapable of showing that many colors, either.

Our second problem is related to the icon text, which seems to always be black (no matter what color the background is) and always the same font. Can this be changed somehow?

    Best regards,

    Patrick

    Hi,

when you are talking about the icons and the text, are you referring to those shown on the WTOS desktop or inside a XenApp desktop session?
Can you post your wnos.ini file?

I’m talking about the icons and text on the WTOS desktop. The desktops I get from XenApp works fine.

Also, at a closer examination, it seems like the icons aren’t 256 colors, but 16 colors. Hideous, anyway 🙂

    Here’s my wnos.ini file:

    Hi,

the textcolor is autoadjusted to match to the background color. So, as long you are using black as a background, the text color will be white and vice versa. The colors in between will let the text color change to best visibility.
The icons you get from PNAgent are always low color (cannot say if 16 or 256 colors).

BTW, icons that are not loaded via PNAgent but via wnos.ini (icon=myicon.bmp) are shown with high color but this is not of great help in a PN environment.

i am having this same problem. and that’s the reason i came to this forum!

Is there no fix for this? The icons look really bad. and on some of our icons (custom apps) the icons are white! but they look find using the PNAgent in Windows XP/Vista/7. It’s only on the thin clients!

ANY way around this would be great!

And a note to the programmers for the Wyse ThinOS, FIX THIS PROBLEM!! =) i have been having it since I started using Wyse ThinOS back in version 5.x.

This is a big problem. To me anyway…

    — Update—-

i JUST noticed this was from 2008! lol

Maybe they do have it fixed now. I can’t find any resolution to this problem so i don’t know. Can anyone help?

i am currently using 6.5.0_34. And it’s still happening. Is there something i need to add to the WNOS.INI file to change the icon colors so they appear correct?

    Thanks!

    Don’t know if this matters.

But i am running XenApp 6 on Windows Server 2008 R2. Wyse Thin Clients are V10L’s.

The problem here is that Wyse introduced a wallpaper. If you now change the wallpaper to your needs, the icontext is still dependent on the deskcolor and nt color of the wallpaper.
That’s why you still have to set the deskcolor to either light or dark, depending on your desktop. Then the text will be shown in the opposite one.

Oh no i’m not talking about the text color.

I’m talking about the icon colors.

They are still 16 color and look horrible. i would love to get 32bit color, but 16bit is OK!

i have the text color problems fixed already. I just want the icons to look the same on Thin Client running ThinOS as they do on a Windows Machine running the PNAgent. on ThinOS, some of our icons are white because of this problem. So the people have to use the text name to tell what program is what.

Can you try switching to local 16bit color?

    DesktopColorDepth=16 RGB565=yes

Unfortunately that did not work. I have tried changing to 16bit color and 32 bit, with and without RGB565=yes and that doesn’t help.
