I don’t have any real fixes for you, but I have experienced the same.
Some work ok, some have to be rebooted multiple times. Some need to deleted from the console and let it enroll itself again.
It was a real pain. I had to go from 8.6.412 > 8.6.807 > 9.1.6108 > 9.3.3099. It was a crap shoot.
