ThinOS 8.2 with RTME support is ready to go

What a week. Beside a new WDM version, new SUSE image and updated WCM tool, Dell engineering has finalized ThinOS 8.2.
Although the binaries are still not available for download somewhere, Dell promised to release them shortly for customers with valid maintenance. New orders will get this version in March/April timeframe.

This release is only available for 5000 (5010 – D10D/D10DP, 5040 – AIO 5212/5213) and 7000 (7010 – Z10D) series units. 3000 series unit will stay on 8.1_029 and have to wait for the 8.3 release later this year.
The reason for this is the main new feature which was integrated – RTME.
RTME is the Citrix Real Time Media Engine and is needed to support Lync.
Dell engineering has implemented RTME based on the Citrix HDX RealTime Optimization Pack 1.8 for Lync which support Lync 2010, Lync 2013 and Skype for Business (Lync 2013 GUI mode) as well as Lync 2010 and 2013 server.

Other new features are:

  • Bluetooth support: The ThinOS 8.2 release supports HID and Headset Bluetooth devices and needs the Intel wireless chipset 7260 which is integrated in the above mentioned devices when ordered with wireless module
  • VMware Horizon View broker and PCoIP updates
  • Removal of RDP VOR from ThinOS 8.2
  • Log attached monitor data to the thin client event log
  • Upgrade TLS from 1.0 to 1.2

Latest protocols: Citrix ICA 13.2.1 and VMware Horizon client 3.5
Security updates, and bug fixes.

WDM 5.5.1 Hotfix posted

Dell has released a WDM 5.5.1 hotfix. This hotfix can only be installed on top of either WDM 5.5 Enterprise or WDM 5.5 Workgroup. There are two different installers available. Take care and download the correct one.

New feature:

  • Option to extend the 30 days WDM Enterprise trial to 60 days
  • Webinterface introduced in WDM 5.5 got a lot of updates. Now this webinterface in no longer only for viewing. Instead you can do a lot of admin task now. However, it is still labeled as “Preview”
  • Integrated WCM version was updated to 1.4.0.3 and now supports Windows 10 IoT Enterprise
  • Plattformsupport for Windows 10 IoT Enterprise

Mobile thin clients are going EOL

All available mobile Thin Clients from Dell Wyses 7000 series are going EOL by end of January 2016.

Models affected are 7452-X50M, 7492-X90M7, 7492-X90M7P and 7202-X00M.

You can still order them but you should hurry if you need more.

ThinOS Hotfix release available

Only a few week after the big ThinOS 8.1 release, Dell has published a hotfix release. The version number is 8.1_029 and contains a ton of fixes and improvements.

One of the biggest improvements is the support for Netscaler 11. Also quite valuable is the new option to disable WLAN only if Ethernet connection is up.

I will update ConfGen ASAP and publish an update on this site.

Dell Wyse vWorkspace now localized

For those of you who are using a Non-US MUI, the latest version of vWorkspace now offers localized connectors.

With version 8.6.1 of vWorkspace Dell has translated the connector to several languages like French, German, Spanish or traditional Chinese.

You will also find performance improvements with adaptive graphics and anonymous logon, improved support for multi-tenancy and more.

vWorkspace is also available for trials on Microsoft Azure.

Finally! ThinOS 8.1 is released

It has been a long time that we are talking about the 8.1 release. There has been a back and forth in  the development and release of this new version. But the wait is over.

Today Dell released the latest and greatest version of its successful and for me the best Thin Client OS in the market.

Some of you already had the chance to beta test this version or ever get the final code directly from one of the Dell SEs. But now it is posted on the Selfservice Portal for general access – at least if you have a valid maintenance contract.

There is no new firmware version for the D10DP/5010 with PCoIP or 5213/5040 AIO with PCoIP. They have to wait for the next release to get all these new features.

I have uploaded the new Admin and INI guide to this site. Check the Download section – ThinOS.

Here is a list of new features in 8.1_027 release:

  • Flash Redirection: Offload flash content to ThinOS client and locally render/decode the flash playback. This is currently for ICA connections only
  • Imprivata WebAPI v4 support
  • Caradigm SSO & CM Server
  • ICA Supercodec/RDP H.264
  • ICA 14.0.0.91
1)Multicast support in VDMM (Virtual Driver Multi-Media)
2)SuperCodec support in VDTW (Virtual Driver ThinWire)
    3)Keyboard Timer support
    4)Mouse’s snap to position
    5)Seek support in VDMM
  • VPN – OpenConnect
  • Citrix UPD
  • Log unexpected error messages from web servers
  • USB 3.0 on Z10D
  • RDP dynamic resizing
  • Create ini options to change BIOS features
  • Present the H/W configuration in ThinOS UI from BIOS
  • NetScaler User-Agent change: Before this change you’d have to create a new NS policy to check for “WTOS/1.0” in the User-Agents HTTP Header. Now ThinOS reports WTOS/1.0 and CitrixReceiver in the header. Therefore, you still can devide between standard clients and ThinOS, but you do not have to.

New All-in-One client presented and version 9 of CCM announced

Dell presented its latest addition to their Thin Client portfolio. It is the second All-in-One with a bigger display and a different audience.

The new Dell Wyse 5050 is a combination of the Dell-Display P2414H with 23.6″ in size and the Wyse 5030 (aka P25). It is the first time that you get a nearly 24″ monitor with an in-build Teradici chipset to easily connect to a VMware Horizon View environment with a great performance. Everyone who has worked with the 5030 in the past, knows about its capabilties as a fast and reliable Zero Client.
The client is equipped with six USB ports, whereof 4 are build at the site of the client to be easily reachable. The display supports Full-HD. The stand is detachable and can be rotated.
The 5050 will become available in the US in December, following in other regions in 2016.

You can manage the client with Wyse Device Manager or Teradici’s own solution. In the last weeks Teradici changed its licensing model of this management software, which is now not longer free of charge.

Along with the new 5050, Dell announced an upcoming update of its cloud-based management soltion Cloud Client Manager. Version 9 brings support for iOS 9, Windows 10 and delegated control.
